About The Program
- The i-STEM Project, based at the University of Arizona, combines one-on-one mentoring and guide led groups with science and engineering exploration for Native American students (3rd-8th Grade).
- Mentors include tribal members, industry science professionals, and graduate students from the U of A.
- Guides include U of A graduate students and staff who work with the students in small groups and engage them in weekly activities.
- We use flash science activities that are educational and connect to the lived, situated lives and traditions of native students.
- These activities are short hands-on activities that can be completed during a school lunch hour.
- These activities combine western science and traditional Native American knowledge and include take home activities to involve family members.
